Kenji Matsuda is known as master to many in the Ainu community in Akan, Hokkaido, the most Northerly Island in the Japanese Archipelego. The Ainu are the indigenous people of Japan and Matsuda san is an active member of the community. He is a coach of traditional Ainu dance and also runs a popular ramen restaurant in the Ainu village in Akan called 'Banya'. His life history is of one of gradual acceptance of and eventually a full embracing of his Ainu heritage in a culture of discrimination.
